How I Met Your Mother Halloween Treat

The infamous slutty pumpkin episode features Neil Patrick Harris as Top Gun's Maverick and that's hot any way you roll it. And of course boring Ted Moseby would have the most boring costume ever

The 4-Episode Test: Judging the NIKITA

Picture
Why Louis Peitzman watched it in the first place: I like sexy spy
series, especially if they're heavy on the action and light on the
heavy. Nikita's an intriguing character with incredible legs—there's
satisfaction in watching her punch and kick things.

Pilot (Rating = 4): Sharp, flashy start to the series with a fun twist at the end.

Episode 2 (Rating = 2): The action scenes are still fun, but Alex's backstory is icky and, frankly, not that interesting.

Episode 3 (Rating = 3): It's just not up there with the solid pilot. Points for the Tarantino reference, though.

Episode 4 (Rating = 4): And Nikita begins its climb back to—well, not greatness, but at least enjoyability. More twists and moral ambiguity, please

Does Chuck Deserve a Full Season Pickup?

Picture
There's good news for Chuck fans, somehow, miraculously again. Despite all reason pointing towards cancellation, word on the street is that NBC is near a deal to expand the current season's 13-episode order to a full 22. Entertainment Weekly says the contract is all but done, with just a few signatures in goat's blood needed here and there.

But does Chuck really deserve the pickup? A look at the ratings would seem to say no. Last week's episode drew 5.3 million viewers and a 1.9 rating among 18-49 year olds. Only the dismal Chase (1.5 rating) and the CW pair of 90210 and Gossip Girl (0.9 rating each) did poorer on that night on the major networks (yeah it's a stretch to call The CW a major network, but it is).

So why does Chuck continue to survive? Right now it's a case of survival by attrition. Network shows are all taking a beating, yet Chuck has remained steady, for the most part, this season. The love affair with new shows is wearing off as the numbers of those shows are plummeting, yet here's this one show that's putting up consistent--albeit disappointing--stats each week.

If you're NBC and you're crunching numbers, Chuck seems like the most reasonable investment. And with Undercovers and Chase making their cases to be the next NBC shows canceled, the heat is off Chuck.

Chuck fans, count your blessings and keep watching!

Do you think Chuck should get a full season? Do you think NBC will renew it for a fifth season?

Dexter Can Trust No One

Picture
Trust no one. I know that was The X-Files’ motto, but I think it applies just as well to Dexter.
Sunday night’s episode was about “leaps of faith”—a phrase Dexter
co-opted from his seemingly perfect nanny. And there were certainly
plenty of leaps to be had: Dexter and Sonya, Dexter and Lumen, Debra and
Quinn—they had to choose to trust each other. Sounds good on paper, but
in my mind? They’re all making colossal mistakes.
Dexter’s world is not one in which you take chances, and the man himself
should know that by now. Season 4 saw Dexter being careless, drawing
out his pursuit of Trinity in a cat-and-mouse game that left Rita dead.
So why with Harry—ever the voice of reason—telling him to get rid of
Lumen Pierce, does Dexter decide to keep her alive? She’s unstable.
She’s a liability. Look what happened when Dexter gave Lumen the knife
to prove that he wasn’t going to kill her: she stabbed him in the arm.
“How do I know you didn’t kill these girls?” Lumen asked Dexter after he
revealed Boyd’s victims. “You don’t,” he replied. “It’s a leap of faith
for both of us.” Here’s the thing about leaps of faith, though: you
don’t always land on your feet.

Hulk REBOOT!

Picture
... Sure, since we're already redoing every single other property out there, let's reboot The Hulk
as well. ABC is giving the green guy another spin with a new series,
but details aren't out in the open yet. Also in talks to be adapted for
TV is Marvel's Cloak and Dagger. Let's hear it: Who should play the Hulk? I say that wheelchair kid from Glee. [THR]

Hulk" is one of two projects that are priorities at Marvel Television,
Marvel Studio's TV division, which has been operating under the radar
since Jeph Loeb took the reins at the end of June. The second hot
property is "Cloak and Dagger," which is being developed as a possible
show for ABC Family.

Lindsay Lohan is Crying, Going to Jail

Picture
Actress and professional party animal Lindsay Lohan is probably wearing a fake mustache, sunglasses, and a large trench coat as she heads toward the Mexican border, but it ain't gonna work. She's going to jail.

The 24-year old tabloid target bawled in court yesterday as Judge Marsha N. Revel bucked the trend of letting celebrities off the hook with a slap on the wrist and sentenced her to 90 days in jail. With no booze or drugs! How will Lindsay survive?
"It's like someone who cheats but doesn't think it's cheating if they don't get caught," Revel said during the sentencing.
In addition to 90 days in jail, Revel sentenced Lohan to 90 days in rehab that will immediately follow her jail time.
We'll see how much of the sentence Lohan actually serves. If you'll recall, Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail in 2007 but ultimately was reassigned to home confinement after a few days in the slammer.

Talking Point: True Blood's Sex Scene

Picture
Lorena once again drives home the fact that Bill will never be able to love a human again without ruining their lives, and that his hanging on to his humanity is a weakness. Bill gets upset, and apparently when vampires get upset they also get aroused. So he forces himself upon her, which she loves 'cuz she's dirty like that, rips off her clothes and proceeds to hump away frontside-to-frontside. Okay, so that's pretty tame. But here's where it gets interesting. Bill, in a screaming rage, grabs Lorena's head and begins to twist. Not in an "I'm a rough chiropractor" way, but in a "I'm going to tear this bitch's head off" kind of way. And he turns. And turns. And turns, until her head is a full 180 degrees twisted, facing the bedroom floor from the edge of the bed. Now, vampires need more than just a little spine readjustment to die, so she's still alive, blood dripping from her mouth. And the kicker? She gurgles, "William, I still love you." Bill screams, and we do too.
